Playfield Player of the Month is a series of incredible individuals chosen for how they show up in this world. These are people who make it their priority to create a positive impact in their community - they are passionate leaders, influencers, and mentors.
March's player of the month is Melissa Adams, a local reiki practitioner based out of Calgary. Melissa is an inspiration to us at Playfield by her example of going inwards and facing off with herself in the most vulnerable ways so that she can then show up every day and be of service to the people around her. We wanted to ask Melissa a few in-depth questions to understand more about her, her journey, and the importance of inner work.
2. Generally speaking, a lot of people focus on their physical health (going to the gym, eating healthy, etc.), but people aren’t as aware of emotional and spiritual health. How important is emotional and spiritual health, and why do you think so many people push it to the side?
3. There are many different types of stones that may be used in healing. What are some of your favourites and which stone do you most resonate with?
I’m loving rose quartz right now, it’s light pink in colour and said to open the heart at all levels. Black obsidian is another stone I wear on my body often, it’s said to form a shield against negativity and draws out mental stress and tension. My favourite stone is definitely Jade. It comes in the most beautiful shades of green (my fave colour) and has a very soft feel, connecting one to the energy within their heart.
4. Diego and Andy started Playfield because they wanted to give back to their community, which we know is something that is super aligned with you too. Why do you think it’s important to live a life of service?
Living a life of service is important to me because I know what it’s like to feel worthless. I also know how it feels to realize that I am empowered and all the answers I need are within me. I want people to realize how amazing they are just by being brave enough to look within. I think the world would be a very different place if it were filled with people who loved and respected themselves.
5. What are you most grateful for about your journey thus far?
I’m only supposed to pick one thing but at this very moment, I am most grateful for my health, this beautiful city and all the amazing people that I’m surrounded by.
